The Bead Company Victoria has been operating at the present , 336 Smith Street location for more than 25 years as a family business. We are located in vibrant eclectic Smith Street near the corner of Johnston Street, Melways Ref… next to Picture Box 3 kilometres from Melbourne CBD. Take the 86 tram to Bundoora and stop number 19 will bring you right to our door. We can be reached from the city and suburbs by tram, bus and train. Car parking is available in the street.
We are open 7 days- Hours 10-5 Monday- Saturday and 12 Noon –5 Sunday. We are closed public holidays.
We are listed Swarovski dealers. The full range of Swarovski diamontes, flatbacks, sew-ons, components, beads and pearls are available. Most items are in stock at the shop as singles and various size lots with some colours, sizes and full packs available by order.
We have become well known and respected in our dealings over the years and have often been approached by auction houses and businesses that are closing so have accumulated many items not readily available and are constantly sourcing items with a difference including vintage and retro lines. This has resulted in a wide range in size and colour in pointed back faceted glass foiled diamontes, marcasite stones and coloured glass unfoiled clear stones mostly of Czechoslovakian and Austrian origin for manufacturing and repair work. Settings for these will be available in 2010.
Beads and findings are imported from all over the world and we support fair trade beads from Africa and other countries. Whenever possible we stock Australian made wood, metal and glass beads to encourage ecologically friendly community groups, individuals and companies. Also available is a range of basic tools and accessories and a wide selection of threads, cords, elastic, wire,rubber etc.
Services we offer include rethreading, repairs, design assistance, remake of existing items and collections and practical help for you to do it yourself. Bring in your own goodies, ask for a design board and lay out your new designs with selection from our wide range of beads and components. You can thread them up yourself and we can show you how to finish the ends or do it for you for our standard rethreading/repair prices.
We will also try to source hard to find beads and parts.
Regular weekly classes are held on Sunday mornings to teach most basic methods of construction. Classes are limited to a maximum of 6 people so that you can learn a technique and take home a completed piece of jewellery you can be proud to say you made yourself. Ask for a copy of our class list
